The Difference

Anyone can place a veneer. Few can match a face.

Cosmetic dentistry is the most subjective field in dentistry. Two dentists working on the same patient can produce very different results — not because of skill alone, but because of taste, lighting, lab choice, and the dentist's patience for the details that don't show up on an X-ray.

A natural-looking restoration isn't just the right shade. It's the way light moves through the porcelain. It's the slight variation in tooth length that keeps a smile from looking artificial. It's the soft characterization at the incisal edge that mimics a real tooth. It's the way the lab translates a chairside photo of your face — your skin tone, the shape of your lip line, the natural shade of your other teeth — into a piece of porcelain.

We invest in the steps that separate a thoughtful cosmetic case from a rushed one: clinical photography of your face and teeth, custom shade matching with the lab, mock-ups before any tooth structure is touched, and a whiten-first protocol so your restorations match the smile you actually want. The work takes longer. The result lasts longer too.

  • Clinical photography
High-quality photos of your face, smile, and teeth are part of every cosmetic case. The lab works from these photos — not just a shade tab — to match your overall aesthetic.
  • Custom shade matching
Shade matching is where most cosmetic work falls short. We treat it as the artistic step it is — color theory, light dynamics, and lab communication, not just a shade guide held to your tooth.
  • Mock-up before commitment (larger cases)
For multi-tooth cases, we create a mock-up or digital preview before any prep work. You see and approve the proposed result before any tooth structure is removed.
  • Whiten first, restore second
If you're considering veneers or bonding, we recommend whitening first. Restorations don't whiten later — they match the shade they're made at. Better to start from a brighter baseline.
  • Materials chosen by case
Emax for most posterior veneers; anterior zirconia for front teeth where strength and translucency matter together. We pick the material to fit the case, not the other way around.
  • Honest about scope
If your case needs work outside what we do well — gum contouring (we refer to a periodontist), full-mouth wear cases (we refer to a prosthodontist) — we'll tell you up front.
What We Offer

From a single chip to a complete smile makeover.

Cosmetic work ranges from a 30-minute composite bonding repair to a multi-month full smile design. We do most of it in-house and coordinate with specialists when a case calls for it. Pricing below is typical for the West Chester market; you'll get exact numbers at your free consult.

01

Porcelain veneers

Custom lab-made shells bonded to the front of the teeth. The right choice for larger smile transformations and when precise shade and shape control matters. Materials: emax for most cases, anterior zirconia where strength and translucency need to work together.

Per tooth $1,500 - $2,000
Full set of 6-8 upper veneers: $9,000-$16,000
02

Composite bonding

Tooth-colored resin applied directly chairside in a single visit. Excellent for chips, small gaps, and minor reshaping. Reversible in a way porcelain veneers aren't. Often the right answer for a single problem tooth rather than a whole-smile makeover.

Per tooth $300 - $800
Smaller repairs: $300-$500. Larger cosmetic bonding: $400-$800.
03

Zoom in-office whitening

A single 60-90 minute visit. High-strength whitening gel activated by a special light, in 15-minute cycles. Lighten 2-8 shades in one visit. Some tooth sensitivity for 24-48 hours is normal and temporary.

Single visit $500 - $700
Most dramatic single-visit whitening option
04

Take-home whitening

Custom-fitted trays plus professional-strength bleaching gel. Worn at home, typically 30-60 minutes a day for 2-4 weeks. More gradual than Zoom, but excellent control over the final shade and often less sensitivity.

Custom trays + gel $300 - $450
Refill gel available; trays last for years
05

Smile makeover

A combination treatment plan tailored to your goals — often Invisalign to align the teeth first, professional whitening to brighten, then bonding or veneers to perfect shape and shade. Comprehensive, sequenced carefully, typically completed over 6-12 months.

Combination treatment Varies by case
Quoted at your consultation with each component priced separately
06

Tooth-colored fillings

All of our fillings are tooth-colored composite or ceramic — no amalgam (silver) fillings. The aesthetic difference is significant for posterior teeth visible when you smile or laugh, and the materials bond chemically to the tooth rather than just sitting in a hole.

Per filling Varies by size
Most are covered by dental insurance as restorative
The Veneer Process

From consult to final smile, in 2-3 visits.

Veneer cases are paced deliberately. The work between visits — at the lab, with the photography and shade matching — is where the result is made. Here's what to expect.

  1. 1

    Free consultation & planning

You come in to discuss what you want to change about your smile. We take an iTero digital scan, clinical photographs of your face and teeth, and review what's possible. If you're considering whitening too, we typically recommend that first. You leave with a written plan and pricing — no obligation to proceed.

  2. 2

Mock-up / preview (for larger cases)

For cases involving multiple teeth, we create a mock-up or digital preview before any tooth structure is touched. You see what the proposed result will look like in your own mouth, and we can refine the shape, size, and contour before committing. Single bondings and small cases skip this step.

  3. 3

    Preparation & temporaries

Once the design is approved, we conservatively prepare the teeth — typically less than 0.5mm of enamel reduction for porcelain veneers. We take final impressions or digital scans, send detailed photographs to the lab for shade matching, and fit you with temporary veneers shaped like the final design while the porcelain is made.

  4. 4

    Delivery & bonding

Your veneers come back from the lab in roughly 2-3 weeks. We try them in, evaluate the fit, shade, and shape in your mouth, make any adjustments, and bond them permanently. Final polish and bite check. You walk out with the finished smile.

A Real Case

Chipped tooth, sports accident, 30-minute fix.

One of our younger patients came in after chipping their front tooth in a sports accident. Not a huge chip — small enough that veneers or a crown would have been overkill, large enough that it was the first thing they noticed every time they looked in the mirror.

A 30-minute composite bonding repair. We matched the shade, sculpted the resin to mirror the natural anatomy of the surrounding teeth, polished it, and they walked out the same day. The result is indistinguishable from the natural tooth — even up close. That's the kind of case where bonding is exactly the right tool.

A Common Question

What about Crest Whitestrips?

Honest answer: whitestrips are fine for very mild stains and maintenance. They're not going to get you significantly whiter than professional treatment, and they have real limitations.

The bleaching gel in over-the-counter strips is weaker than what we use professionally. The application is less even — strips often miss spots near the gumline or between teeth — so you can end up with an uneven result. And the strips don't stay perfectly in place, which means the gel doesn't sit on your teeth for the full intended time.

For most patients who actually want whiter teeth, custom-tray bleaching at home is the most cost-effective professional option. It's a step up from strips (custom-fitted trays that hold the gel against every surface of your teeth) and a step below Zoom in price. Once you have the trays, you can refill the gel for years. Many people who've been buying Whitestrip boxes for years find it isn't much more expensive in the long run.

If you want the most dramatic single-visit result, in-office Zoom is the option. If you're patient and want the most controlled outcome with the least sensitivity, take-home trays are the option. Either way — we'll help you pick the right one for your case.

Pricing & Insurance

Cosmetic work is out-of-pocket — mostly.

Purely cosmetic procedures aren't typically covered by dental insurance. That said, the lines between cosmetic and restorative aren't always clean — a chipped front tooth restored with bonding may have partial coverage, since it's repairing damage. We'll check your plan and tell you exactly what's covered before you commit.

  • Pure cosmetic typically not covered
Veneers, professional whitening, and elective bonding are generally patient-pay. Tooth-colored fillings, on the other hand, are covered as restorative.
  • Partial coverage for damaged tooth repair
Bonding for a chipped tooth, for example, may be covered as a restoration of damaged structure rather than cosmetic enhancement. We'll verify before treatment.
  • CareCredit financing available
6, 12, 18, and 24-month interest-free payment plans (subject to credit approval). Most patients use this to spread larger cosmetic cases over a year or two.
  • Benefit plan members get a discount
If you're enrolled in our in-house benefit plan, you'll receive a discount on cosmetic work. See plan details.
  • Free cosmetic consultations
No charge to come in, discuss what you want to change, see what's possible, and get a written quote. No obligation to proceed.
Common Questions

Cosmetic questions.

  • How much do porcelain veneers cost?
Porcelain veneers at East Bradford Dental run $1,500 to $2,000 per tooth. A typical 6-to-8 tooth upper veneer case totals $9,000 to $16,000. That includes the digital scan, mock-up/preview, prep, temporary veneers, lab fabrication, and final delivery. You'll get an exact written quote at your free consultation.
  • How long do porcelain veneers last?
Porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 20 years with proper care — regular cleanings, good hygiene, and avoiding habits like chewing ice or using your teeth as tools. Eventually all dental work needs to be replaced; well-made porcelain tends to hold up longer than composite restorations.
  • What's the difference between bonding and porcelain veneers?
Composite bonding is done chairside in a single visit. It costs less ($300-$800 per tooth), is reversible, and is excellent for chips, small gaps, and minor reshaping. Porcelain veneers ($1,500-$2,000 per tooth) are lab-made shells bonded to the front of the teeth. They last longer, resist staining better, and are the right choice for larger smile transformations or where shade and shape need to be precisely controlled.
  • Does insurance cover cosmetic work?
Purely cosmetic work — veneers, professional whitening — is typically not covered by dental insurance. Bonding for a chipped tooth may have partial coverage if it qualifies as a restoration of damaged tooth structure. We'll check your plan and tell you what's covered before treatment.
  • How long does Zoom whitening take?
A Zoom visit takes 60 to 90 minutes total. We apply a high-strength gel activated by a special light in 15-minute cycles. Most patients lighten 2-8 shades in a single visit depending on the starting shade and the nature of the staining. Some tooth sensitivity for 24-48 hours afterward is normal and temporary.
  • Are Crest Whitestrips as good as professional whitening?
Whitestrips are fine for very mild stains and maintenance, but they won't get you significantly whiter than professional treatment. The gel is weaker, the application less even, and you can miss spots near the gumline. Custom-tray bleaching at home (between strips and Zoom in cost) is the most cost-effective professional option.
  • Will whitening work on my crowns or veneers?
No. Whitening only works on natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers, fillings, and bonding stay the color they were made. This is why we recommend whitening first if you're considering any new restorative or cosmetic work — so the new work can be matched to the shade you actually want.
  • Should I whiten my teeth before getting veneers?
Yes, almost always. Veneers are matched to your existing tooth color, but you can't whiten them later. If you want a brighter overall smile, we whiten first, wait a few weeks for the shade to stabilize, then take final shade and design the veneers to match. It's one of the protocols that separates a thoughtful cosmetic case from a rushed one.
  • Do veneers ruin your natural teeth?
Porcelain veneers require a small amount of tooth reduction — typically less than 0.5mm of enamel — so they're not fully reversible like bonding. They are not destructive when done well. Modern veneer techniques are conservative and designed to preserve as much natural tooth as possible. For patients who want a fully reversible option, composite bonding is the alternative.
Why East Bradford

Three decades of care in West Chester.

East Bradford Dental has been caring for West Chester families since 1993. Dr. Steven Casella has invested in the modern cosmetic dentistry workflow — clinical photography, iTero scanning, careful shade matching, and a deliberate pace for cosmetic cases — that produces results worth showing.

We were named to Philadelphia Magazine's Top Dentists 2026 list. For cosmetic work specifically, our edge is that we treat it as artistry rather than a procedure. We're also honest about what we don't do — full-mouth wear cases and significant gum recontouring are referred to the specialists who do them best.
